Saturday Walk 29th November – NEW! Easy Walk in Meanwood Valley c.6.5 miles

November 29, 2025 @ 9:00 am 12:15 pm

The next walk is a new one and is a nice relatively easy walk starting from the car park in Meanwood next to the Three Cottages café. This is currently a free car park. It’s not very big so we need to minimise the number of cars we take. The walk has around 650ft of climbing and descending. I estimate that the walk will take a maximum of 3 hours. We will have lunch at the Three Cottages café afterwards. Please have a look at the lunch menu (using the link below) and let me have your food selection.

The walk will start from the Three Cottages car park off Green Road in Meanwood LS6 4LE at 9:00.  This is a free car park.

There are toilets in the café, but it only opens at 9am, which is when we are starting the walk.

This is a lovely, varied walk in woodland and by streams. This walk was devised by Sue Wittrick as she knows this area much better than I do. I find the multitude of paths very confusing. Sue will be the wing woman for this walk, and I’ll be trying to learn it better for myself! I wanted to have an easy walk in this area which made use of the excellent Three Cottages café and Sue stepped up for the challenge so my grateful thanks to Sue!

We will walk from the car park up tarmac paths to start with. The Meanwood Valley area is criss-crossed with paths and streams and is a delight. We’ll head up towards the Ring Road and will go through the tunnel under it. We’ll then head into Adel Woods and then come back down to the Ring Road, which we will cross very carefully. We walk through Meanwood Park and back into the Meanwood Valley for lunch at the café after changing out of our muddy boots.

We will encounter some muddy stretches on this walk, especially if we have any more rain between now and then. There aren’t really any areas where we’re likely to encounter livestock and stiles are few and far between on this walk.

Note that poles are now compulsory on the walks. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear, which take account of the weather forecast, and bring a drink. I do my best to assess the weather and the likely walking conditions but would ask everyone to decide whether a particular walk is right for them on that day. Please note that everyone taking part in the walk does so at their own risk.

Here’s a link, which all of you can open and for all those of you who have the OS Map App, it will appear in the tab labelled “Bookmarked” when you download it.
