Handy Info All About Us

Bramhope Rolling Scones WI started in November 2013 and we have a membership of up to 135 members.

Bramhope WI Members

At the moment our 135 membership is full. We do have a waiting list for new members who would like to join us – just contact us via the contact link to find out more and be added to the waiting list. We encourage anyone interested in joining us to come to one of our main meetings as a visitor. Then you can meet us and get a sense of what we are about.

WI membership is by annual subscription which is paid each year on 1st April. This year (April 2025 – March 2026) the subscription is £51. If new members join during the year, the cost of the subscription reduces each quarter.

We meet on the first Thursday of each month. We open the doors at 7pm giving time for members and visitors to get some refreshments (tea, coffee, wine, cake, biscuits and nibbles) and to socialise before the main meeting starts at 7.30pm.  Meetings generally end at 9 – 9.30pm

We meet at St Giles Church Hall, Church Hill, Bramhope, LS16 9BA. There is some parking at the hall and on the street, but there is also a public car park a short walk from the hall, next to the tennis courts on Old Lane.

We are a very active WI with several sub groups members can join. This a great way to meet more people in addition to the main meetings.

If any members would like to join any of the groups please email us on bramhopewi@gmail.com

  • Book Group – Meets usually on a Monday evening, every 6 to 8 weeks. we meet and discuss the book we have read. We read a variety of genres and the books read are suggested by the members of the group. The discussions are a great way to get different perspectives of the books we have read.

  • Garden Group – Organises trips and talks related to gardens. There is usually one activity each month.

  • Art & Craft Group – This group has organised projects to support charities and local events, including making bunting to decorate the village for the Tour de Yorkshire and knitting teddies for the Zarach charity. The group arranges workshops as needed.

  • Patchwork and Quilting Group – This group meets on Thursday mornings during term time and is run by one of our members who is an expert teacher and members learn different techniques for patchwork and quilting. Members undertake their own projects however big or small and Linda brings small seasonally themes projects for members to try.

  • Midweek Walking Group – arranges walks on Wednesday or Thursday mornings twice a month. The walks tend to be 4 to 5 miles long, and are reasonably easy, with a café stop.

  • Saturday Walking Group – arranges walks on a Saturday morning twice a month. The walks tend to be between 6 to 8 miles long and are a little more challenging that the midweek walks. Again, we have a café stop!

  • Park Walking Group – Our park walking group meets once a month, usually on a Friday, visiting local parks with good paths. The length of the walk is usually 2-3 miles, often with coffee in the middle.

  • Baking Group – ‘A Scone for all Seasons’ The baking groups meets on a Tues Wed or Thursday afternoon during Autumn, Winter and Spring. At each meeting we have a theme and 3 members bake based on the theme. At the meetings we have refreshments, taste the bakes, share the recipes and have a good natter and share great company. Themes we have had in the past include Fruit, Yeast, Christmas.

Other suggestions for new groups are always welcome!

Our members enjoy the extra activities we offer as much as the monthly meetings. We offer a wide variety of outings and trips during the year and encourage our members to come up with new ideas!

We arrange meals out, trips to the theatre to see ballets, musicals, and plays, and outings such as visits to stately homes, guided walks and tours.

We have also enjoyed overnight trips. We have visited Kew Gardens for the Christmas lights, Liverpool for a Beatles tribute concert, Edinburgh to see the Royal Yacht and Holyrood Palace, Cambridge and Stratford.

Edinburgh WI Women's Institutes Visit

Our Arts and crafts group run projects that support local charities and our local village. For example they have made bunting for the village for events such as the Tour de Yorkshire and Queen’s jubilee, knitted poppies for the British Legion, twiddle muffs for a local care home, reusable bags for the local food bank.

We run the cake stall and café at Bramhope Show every year.

We support a charity each year and raise funds for them via raffles, plant sales and cream teas. Members are able to nominate a charity and members vote at the AGM which one we are going to support. Charities we have supported are Zarack, Hug on a tray, OPAL, Care for a Cuppa and Lineham Farm. This year 2026 we are raising funds for Martin House Children’s Hospice
