5 mile walk along the River Wharfe from Otley via Knotford Nook Gravel Workings
January 7 @ 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Starting from the car park opposite Buon Apps, our walk takes us initially on a familiar route on good paths over the bridge and through Wharfe Meadows Park before crossing the river to the Gallows Hill Nature Reserve. Rather than doing a circuit of the nature reserve we continue on into the fields beyond, eventually making our way back up to the main road for a short distance before a quiet side road takes us on a circuit of Knotford Nook. From here we will then cross the Pool Road and proceed through fields, climbing gently almost to the disused railway line before making our way through the outskirts of Otley and into the town. The walk should take around 2 hours and is a pleasant circuit through some lesser known areas of Otley on a mixture of good paths and across fields which could be very muddy. There are stiles and the fields could contain livestock. At this time of year it could also be icy, so please bear that in mind and come suitably equipped. Sadly the Little Corner of the World is no longer an option for refreshments at the end of our walk so we may give Parisian Chic in Bay Horse Court a try.
