Guided Tour Piece Hall Halifax

For our September outing we have arranged a guided tour of the Piece Hall in Halifax at 11a.m. on Friday 25th September at a cost of £8.50 per person. The tour lasts approximately one hour, after which there will be plenty of time to browse the Piece Hall’s range of independent shops and to grab some lunch at one of the cafés. We will set up WhatsApp groups nearer the time to arrange car sharing.

Described as Yorkshire’s most important secular building, the Grade I listed Piece Hall is an architectural and cultural phenomenon which is absolutely unique. It is the only remaining Georgian cloth hall in the world and the sole survivor of the great eighteenth century northern cloth halls, a class of buildings which embodied the vital and dominant importance of the trade in hand woven textiles to the pre-industrial economy of the West Riding of Yorkshire, from the Middle Ages through to the early nineteenth century.  .
