Saturday Walk – Meanwood Valley/Adel Woods Easier 6miles approx.

October 3 @ 9:00 am – 1:30 pm

This walk will be led by Sue Wittrick as I am away, so please respond to Sue. It is one we did last year for the first time and is a relatively easy walk starting from the car park in Meanwood next to the Three Cottages café. This is currently a free car park. It’s not very big so we need to minimise the number of cars we take. The walk has around 650ft of climbing and descending. Sue estimates that the walk will take a maximum of 3 hours. We will have lunch at the Three Cottages café afterwards. We may do a pre-order depending on how many people go.

The walk will start from the Three Cottages car park off Green Road in Meanwood LS6 4LE at 9:00.  This is a free car park.

There are toilets in the café, but it only opens at 9am, which is when we are starting the walk.

This is a lovely, varied walk in woodland and by streams. This walk was devised by Sue as she knows this area much better than I do.

It goes from the car park up tarmac paths to start with. We proceed along through woods at the top of The Hollies. We’ll head up towards the Ring Road and will go through the tunnel under it. We’ll then head into Adel Woods where we will walk in the woods alongside streams on crisscross paths and then eventually come back down to the Ring Road, which we will cross very carefully. We walk through Meanwood Park and back into the Meanwood Valley for lunch at the café after changing out of our muddy boots.

We will encounter some muddy stretches on this walk, especially if we have any more rain between now and then. There aren’t really any areas where we’re likely to encounter livestock and stiles are few and far between on this walk.

Poles are not compulsory but with lots of tree roots in the Adel Woods section you may find them helpful.
