Saturday Walk: 9th May – New Walk – EASY – 7.7 miles A walk from Staveley around the nature reserve.
May 9 @ 9:00 am – 1:30 pm
The next walk is in the easy category as there is only 280ft of ascent and descent. It’s a reasonable distance at just under 8 miles. The walk will start from the car park of the Royal Oak pub and forms a figure of 8 around the Staveley nature reserve. There are good paths along a lot of this walk but when I recc’d it in late January we’d had a lot of rain and the section by the River Ure was very muddy indeed. It would be a good idea to have a pole for this section as it was quite treacherous.
I estimate that this walk could take up to 3.5 hours. I’ve booked the pub for 12:30pm.
The pub does NOT need a pre-order from us but here’s a link to their website if you’d like to have a look at the food selection – it’s not enormous on the lighter bites, I’m afraid but I am told that they do provide sandwiches as well.

We are allowed to park a maximum of 3 cars in their car park, so if we have any more than that they will have to be left on the street. It’s fine to do that. Note that there are no toilets at the start of this walk.
The walk will start from the Royal Oak car park at 9:00am
Please park at the furthest point from the pub building. The address is 109 Main Street, Staveley, Knaresborough HG5 9LD.
We will walk up the main street and into the nature reserve. We’ll pass one of the lakes where there will be wild fowl and otters live there too. We head out towards the village of Roecliffe and pick up a path by the River Ure. When we leave the riverbank, there’s a little slope (no path) that we have to climb up to pick up the path which loops back around to the nature reserve. There’s a short section where we cover the route we did on the outward stretch and then bear right to walk along the side of some more of the lakes in the reserve. It’s an easy route back to the pub car park, where we’ll change out of our boots before lunch.
