SUMMARY:Saturday Walk 7th June - Sue Wittrick leading an easier category linear walk from Bramhope to Otley c 7 miles
DESCRIPTION:Sue has chosen a new walk for the WI and it’s a one way walk from Bramhope to Otley following the route of the Leeds Greenway route. It has 415 of ascent and 814 of descent\, which is why it is in the easier category. Please see the route and the walk profile in the attached pdf. \n\n\n\nThe walk will start from the tennis courts car park in Bramhope at 9:00am.  This is a free car park. \n\n\n\nWe start at the tennis courts in Bramhope and walk down to the A660 where we cross carefully. We walk past the Puritan Chapel and turn down Staircase Lane. We walk down the track until we reach the main road.  \n\n\n\nAfter walking on the pavement for a short distance we cross the main road and go up Avenue des Hirondelles. This is a beautiful avenue of trees which takes us steadily uphill until we reach the woods and  finally come out at Bar House Row.  \n\n\n\nWe cross a stile into the fields overlooking the Wharfe Valley. There are beautiful views across the valley as we walk gradually down the hill.  \n\n\n\nNear the old railway line we go along the valley a short way back towards Pool. Eventually we join a path next to the river and walk along by the river until we come to Gallow Hill Nature Reserve and Wharfe Meadows.  \n\n\n\nIt is in the easier category but there is a short section downhill which needs care as the stoney surface has worn badly and is very uneven\, so a pole is advisable.  There are several stiles and there are likely to be sheep\, alpacas and maybe horses. If we have rain before then there will be a few muddy stretches. \n\n\n\nPlease wear appropriate clothing and footwear\, which take account of the weather forecast\, and bring a drink and snack. \n\n\n\nSue will do her best to assess the weather and the likely walking conditions but would ask everyone to decide whether a particular walk is right for them on that day. Please note that everyone taking part in the walk does so at their own risk. \n\n\n\nAlso note: Depending on numbers and who is coming we may come back to Bramhope by bus\, or 1 or 2 of us may leave a car(s) in Otley before we start. I will decide nearer the time which is the better option.  \n\n\n\nKim has discovered a new cafe in Otley called Sancta which is happy to take a group of us. They don’t have a website\, so the menus aren’t readily online. \n\n\n\nhttps://www.instagram.com/sancta_books \n\n\n\nhttps://www.facebook.com/sancta.bookshop.cafe/?locale=en_GB \n\n\n\nOS MAP LINK for those of you who have the app and would like a copy of the walk. \n\n\n\nhttps://explore.osmaps.com/route/26888555/bramhope-to-otley?lat=53.90025&lon=-1.67836&zoom=12.9177&style=Leisure&type=2d

SUMMARY:Meanwood Park Walk
DESCRIPTION:The walk on Friday 13th June will be in and around Meanwood park. \n\n\n\n\n\n–We will meet at 10a.m. on Parkside Road\, just off the ring road. ( marked with the black circle on the map ) Unfortunately you can only turn into Parkside Road from that side of the ring road. This walk is relatively short\, only about a mile and a half in total with coffee at the cafe in the park in the middle\, but is mostly NOT on tarmac paths. It could therefore be a bit muddy in parts if we have a lot of rain between now and then\, so sensible footwear should be worn. \n\n\n\nScreenshot

SUMMARY:Saturday Walk: 21st June - High Crag Ridge from Dacre Banks 6.75 miles - Harder category
DESCRIPTION:The walk will start from the small free car park opposite the Royal Oak Inn on Oak Lane in Dacre Banks at 9:30am. \n\n\n\nWe’ll go past the public toilet at the start of the walk. If it is working\, there’s only one actual toilet so it can delay the walk quite a lot if there’s 12 of us needing to use it. \n\n\n\nThe walk is all uphill – 944 feet of climbing until we reach the trig point\, about halfway round. There are field paths but also some good tracks for this section. There are fabulous views of Nidderdale\, including Menwith Hill. \n\n\n\nAfter the trip point it’s mostly downhill; on some good tracks and some grassy paths too. Towards the final section of the walk\, it’s fairly flat along a path not far from the Nidd (that we walk along in the opposite direction on another walk you may have done from Dacre Banks). We have to walk on a footpath by the roads up to The Firs Tearoom and back. \n\n\n\nThere’s a variety of stiles and gates on this walk and sheep\, cows and horses may be encountered. \n\n\n\nPlease wear appropriate clothing and footwear\, which take account of the weather forecast\, and bring a drink. Poles are very useful on the uphill and downhill sections as well as for stability when we encounter some mud\, but I’m not insisting on them at this time of the year. \n\n\n\nI do my best to assess the weather and the likely walking conditions but would ask everyone to decide whether a particular walk is right for them on that day. Please note that everyone taking part in the walk does so at their own risk \n\n\n\nOS MAP LINK for those of you who have the app and would like a copy to save. Note that I understand everyone can open it but not see as much detail as those who have the subscription. \n\n\n\nhttps://explore.osmaps.com/route/12094041/new-dacre-banks-walk-wi?lat=54.06122&lon=-1.73698&zoom=13.1892&style=Leisure&type=2d

SUMMARY:Midweek walk: Nunroyd Park to Maggie's via Spring Wood (approx 4.5 miles)
DESCRIPTION:Starting from Nunroyd Park in Yeadon\, we will make our way through the park and then cross the A65 to follow Nunroyd Beck to the railway bridge and into Spring Wood. After exploring the woods we will head up into Little London and stop for coffee at Maggie’s before heading back across fields to Yeadon where we pick up the Aireborough Greenway\, an easy path which takes us all the way back before a short walk back up to Nunroyd Park.  \n\n\n\nWhilst this walk is largely on good paths\, if we were to get heavy rain in the next week some areas are very prone to flooding\, but the current forecast is promising.  Walking boots are essential and a pole might be helpful for the rougher paths. The walk has both downhill and uphill sections\, in particular as we climb up from the railway line towards Little London – please see the attached profile for more detail.
